HP-UX 11.0 Hanging

Recently I installed 4 machines with hpux 11.0. Three of the machines (1-C3000,2-C110s) worked fine. The fourth (1-c110) on the other hand seems to be having problems with NFS (just what I have detected from my findings). A user can log into the machine without a problem but when they try to open a term window within CDE a window opens without and prompt. At one point you could press CTRL+C a few times to get a prompt, but that doesn't even work now. I have used other peoples advice and put a export HISTFILE in the user profiles (all user directorys are on a nfs mounted directory) which works fine for telnet but doesn't work for su - (username) or when trying to load a dtterm. I'm sure someone else had dealt with this before because I could swear I had heard it in passing one time.

If anyone could let some assistance I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

P.S. I applied a few of the newest patchs. None seemed to help it.

I'm assuming you are nfs mounting to some other server with your c110. Have you checked the logs on your NFS server for error messages?

Re: HP-UX 11.0 Hanging

There weren't any unusual messages that would indicate a malfunction in the NFS. There weren't any unusual messages in the hosts logs either. Very perplexing.

Re: HP-UX 11.0 Hanging

Hi Don.
It may be nis problem not a NFS problem.
When you telnet to this problem box it works fine because nfs is working or else you will have problem loggin from other system too.

#showmount ( to see what is available on this system from nfs)

Check your nsswitch.conf file, your /etc/passwdfile.

Re: HP-UX 11.0 Hanging

well if the histfile didn't work you may like to try :

adding in
/etc/rc.config.d/nfsconf: LOCKD_OPTIONS="-p 4045" ?
