hp-ux 11.0 to 11i upgrade

Trying to guage the work involved with an upgrade from 11.0 to 11i - especially along the lines of third-party software (oracle, iona, mqseries, etc). Anyone have experience with this (does it usually require re-purchase and re-install of third party software? Will vendors support product that is just carried over instead of re-installed - maybe we just need to re-link?). Also, what is the consensus on 11i upgrades - better to re-install or try the upgrade path? (heard that there were greate improvements in upgrade process)

Thanks...

Re: hp-ux 11.0 to 11i upgrade

This is not a fully reliable process.

It can be done, and Oracle says unoffically that if you relink after the upgrade you should be okay. Their official support position does not support this upgrade or ignite replication, which does work.

upgrade-ux upgrades fail more often as the system being upgraded is more complex.

A better course is a cold install of the OS, followed by third party applications and data migration. It may be more work, but its less likely to fail.

You have to check with the application vendors to see if they support the upgrade process.

All above is my opinion. I've done the upgrade in the lab and decided not to do it in production.
