HP-UX 11.00 Upgrade

Hi,

Just about to start a upgrade from 11.00 and unsure whether to go with 11.11 or 11.23. Unfortunately we cannot go with 11.33 as our hardware will not support it.

What would you recommend from experience?

If I was doing this I would go with 11.23 and also I would not use the upgrade method but rather do a fresh install of 11.23 as it should be less problematic. Nearly everyone who goes the upgrade way comes across issues.

Yeah, that is what I have got the business to agree to. Also means that they can *fully* document their application install.

The hardware is a Rp5400 and a N4000, so looking at the system requirements we are okay. Only issue I see is the FW SCSI interface for the legacy DLT7000 autoloader we have. Have to hold onto this due to old data recovery, but we are full F/C on LTO3 now.

I don't think there is a direct upgrade to 11.23 anyway.

Cold install, then all applications.

Your legacy hardware will still work.

11.23 has the advantage of more features built in, and increasingly new features are released for 11.23 and not 11.11

I especially like the built in kernel monitor for 11.23 and its integration with EMS.

You have to make sure that all applications that run on the system are supported on 11.23, which is likely but not a sure thing.

The support on HP-UX version 11.11, probably in force until the end of this year and likely may increase for few more months.
Hence it is recommended to upgrade to version 11.23.

Based on the applications and itâ s criticality you have on these servers, you need to select the upgrade or fresh install method. I would say doing an upgrade will have no impact to the running applications and if it is a fresh install then you need to work on apps.

That is incorrect.

Software support on 11.11 is until 2013 just like 11.23. Which is why many ships stay with 11.11.

Actually, according to the last chart I saw, the end of support for 11iv1/11.11 is the same as 11iv2/11.23.
