HP UX 11.00: User Login Hanging Up

I have a HP K570 running HPUX 11.00 with Oracle installed. At the time the Oracle user "oraweb2" logins into the system, the login session hangs up before reaching the command prompt. I have carefully read over the .profile as well as tried a "generic" .profile from a new user that works but still this particular user's login sessions still hangs up before giving a prompt. What areas, or files should I be reviewing in order to resolve this issue? Thanks

Re: HP UX 11.00: User Login Hanging Up

hi,

may we have a look at the line of the username, oraweb2 from /etc/passwd?

may have to do with the shell.

regards.

Re: HP UX 11.00: User Login Hanging Up

Is the shell being used a valid one? Try to run the 'pwck' command and see if there is a problem in the output for this command.

Hi,
Can you post your .profile file. I feel some problem may be in your .profile only.

See also
1. If there is anything in /etc/profile file which is bothering Oracle User.
2. Check Shell specified in passwd file.
3. Check .profile of Oracle user and see if any control or junk char are there by mistake.

If you still have problems, try truncating/moving the .sh_history file for this user.

HI,

Have you check your mounted file system by a bdf ?
A hang FS (as a nfs file system with server down) may stop the login process.

May be the path to your home directory is not valid.

Re: HP UX 11.00: User Login Hanging Up

I would strongly suspect NFS involvement here. Either you have an NFS mounted home directory (in which case change the location of your history file in the profile with "export HISTFILE=/tmp/.sh_history.$(whoami)") or there is some reference to an NFS mount point in this user's profile. Does bdf work successfully or hang?
