HP-UX 11.11. Add tape drive

Hello.

Try to find a tape drive with SAM.
Get message :

From the list of all device drivers that support tape drives the
following drivers are not configured into the kernel:

c8xx, schgr, scsi1, spt, spt0, stape, tape2, target

The absence of one or more of these drivers may be the reason that
SAM is unable to find the tape drive. If you want to add only a
subset of this list of drivers you can do this by selecting "No",
continue cancelling out of this subarea of SAM and enter Kernel
Configuration.

Do you want SAM to add all of these drivers at this time?

What happens if I answer yes?
Do this mean that I change the kernel config?
And must I reboot the server to activate the changes?

Re: HP-UX 11.11. Add tape drive

Thank you!
I can't boot the server without planning and informing users. Will kernel update start an automatic reboot?

I dont know this system very well. And the servers is on another location. But I think it's ordinary HP (local) tape drives.

Probably you will need the stape driver, but if you don't have the tape model it is a guess.

Re: HP-UX 11.11. Add tape drive

Shalom,

You can narrow the range of options as follows:

ioscan -fnC tape

Device must be connected and powered up.

Then we can find out for sure what driver you need. Its probably stape though.

Adding stape will definitely require a boot.

So thank you all for good advices.
