HP-UX 11.11 installation hang on B200

I'm unable to install HP-UX 11.11 on a B2000(Visualize) system. After loading software from the 2 MC discs, the
system hangs at "Loading the kernel".

I can install HP-UX 11 without problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: HP-UX 11.11 installation hang on B200

It sounds as if the kernel that was generated as part of the installation is not a valid kernel. There could be a problem with drivers, or one of the patches that may have been installed could be bad. Is there a previous kernel you can boot from?

Is 11.11 generally available for systems other than SuperDome? I would like to get it so I can play with it on my workstation.

Re: HP-UX 11.11 installation hang on B200

Thanks for the quick response. This is a new system that came with HPUX11 installed. I'll re-install that version and see if I can't update to 11.11. The reason I didn't do this in the first place is that my local HP-knowledgeable
person said that the update process is fraught with peril.

BTW-When I shut off the power to break out of the hang, it appears the command hanging is
mk_kernel(or something similar as I forgot to write it down).

Re: HP-UX 11.11 installation hang on B200

Getting 11.0 running is probably a good first step. What you may do after that is see what all is installed on the box and make sure that 11.11 (11i) will support all of the hardware on the box.

After that, if you want to update to 11.11, go for it, but I'd first make an Ignite-UX backup of the system, if you've got a tape drive handy, so that you can do a quick restore to get 11.0 back if the 11.11 upgrade goes belly-up on you. If the 11.11 goes OK, and you can boot the machine, then I'd make an Ignite-UX backup of the machine at that point so that if you then install patches or something and it doesn't boot again, then you've got a fairly easy way out.

Good luck to you.
