SolutionA cold-install! This is the cleanest way to do any OS level transition. You have the opportunity to resize your vg00 logical volumes and begin with a clean Installed Products Database ('/var/adm/sw').
If you have setup your vg00 environment to only consist of the standard OS-related logical volumes, you will only need to 'vgimport' non-vg00 volume groups to "see" your non-vg00 filesystems.
Create a 'fbackup' tape of 'vg00' filesystems before you start and capture all of your custom configuation files in a directory or filesystem that you will later 'vgimport'. After installation, then, you will have be able to use these files for reference and or to snip sections from for customizing your virgin installation files.
Regards!

Re: HP-UX 11.11 Upgrade to 11.23
However, if you want to attempt an upgrade, I would first do it on a test server.
Have a read through the documentation here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11iv2oe.html#Installing%20and%20Updating
Especially the following 2 manuals:
HP-UX 11i v2 Read Before Installing or Updating, March 2006
HP-UX 11i v2 Installation and Update Guide, March 2006

Re: HP-UX 11.11 Upgrade to 11.23
Carefully read the update/install documentation, because some IO cards and devices are supported with HP-UX 11i v1, but not with 11i v2!
Not supported in this case means usually not working at all.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
