Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
It looks like you trying to boot from a non bootable device? (can it be the disk is corrupt?)
Is P0 the bootdisk? Do you have a mirrored bootdisk in this system, if so try to boot from this mirrored disk.

If you are not involved in any backup or restore activity then

Start From the Point..
Searching for the console can be complicated......

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
yes bootdisk is P0. i dont have any mirrored disks.
Yesterday I did a clean shutdown. I did not take any backups either. I have not made any changes. I am not able to go to single user mode also.
I have only NNM and VPO installed on this server and I use them to manage the network.
Can I boot with the cd and go to rescue mode and try out.

sam

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
I doubt it will allow you to boot from CD at this stage as it seems to be stuck at PDC level only.
Have you tried TOC and GSP Restart ?

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
disk is not responding.
Either the disk has gone bad
Or
check for the scsi connections.Might be a improper loose scsi connection.
interrupt the boot sequence and do a
search which should list the boot devices

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
GSP:
From the console Type CNTRL B you will get
GSP>
Now type rs and confirm yes
This will restart the GSP.
You can also search for the TOC Option in the GSP Or Else there will be a small switch at the back of the server and TOC will be written there.Just press that switch.

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
Like TG tells you it looks like a disk problem.
If you see the disk in the search it's like a corrupted disk or bad cable connection.
A test is to boot from CD to acknowledge the system still can boot. If the CDROM is on the same SCSI bus and it's a cable problem you will not be able to boot from CDROM also.

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
I agree with peter that is what the document of PDC says it directs to ...
It directs the problem to the System Bus Converter...
The good check is to try booting from a CD
Also if you tape drive is on different BUS you can try booting from it just to check (Provided you have a bootable tape).

when I hit ctrl B at the console I do not get the GSP> . We have HP R Class 380 Server. Does hitting Ctrl B will work on this server.
I could not find the small switch with TOC written on the server.
I will try to boot from cd and check and get back to u.

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
Ok
But TOC switch is there on the rear side of the system the switch will be inside the system and very small, you need a Pointed object to press that switch.
Yes Hitting Cntrl B Works on this server but i guess you will get the CM prompt instead of GSP From CM also you can do the same things as GSP.

SolutionAs per the PDC Document i have referred earlier it seems to be the Problem with the SCSI Bus,Bus converter OR SCSI Cable or The Termination Problem.
Please get the HP Support Engineer to Try replace and Disgnose these in steps...
Just Info : Have you got the TOC switch ?
Are you getting a CM prompt after cntrl B ?
As this may help you for Later ...

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
What is the model of this box?
To get in CM> prompt on some systems you have to switch a key to service mode or at the back op the system switch a switch to service mode on the pemote support card in a slot of the box.
Is there a switch/key like this on your system?
When it's put to service mode you should be able to get (using ctrl-B) in the CM> prompt.

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
You can double check the cableling to the disks. Or see if you have other disks you can use to boot/install on. Watch out with changing the disk for some other SCSI disk HP used allot of different SCSI disks over the years not all SCSI disks will work (even if cable connection looks the same)
If above is not fixing your problem you can still call HP to order a new disk (with or without installation support) they only will send a bill.

Re: HP-UX 11.11i -BOOT PROBLEM
Thanks for your suggestions & help. I have no issues with backup I have the latest backup of the system. What I lose is the OVO message database. I have no issues with that.
Since we are not supposed to Open the HP box We have logged a complaint for support with HP. I hope it would be resolved soon.
I once again thank you guys for your help and support regards.
