HP-UX 11.31 hostname lengh more than eight characters

Hi all,

I have a server where hostname is HP-UX_OVO (9 characters).

HP_UX version is 11.31
Machine type is Itaniun.
uname command is showing only 8 characters.

Does anybody know is this hostname could cause problems?
This is an HPOV server. Could this long hostname cause problems in OVO 9.00?

Hi,

"Man uname" gives me the folowwing information :
-S nodename Change the node name (system name) to nodename.
nodename is restricted to UTSLEN-1 characters (see
uname(2)). See WARNINGS. Only users with
appropriate privileges can use the -S option.

folowing man pages and digging into utsname.h file, max length is either 8 or 256, regarding the setting of a constant : _INCLUDE_HPUX_API_LEVEL
