We have the server HP-UX 11.31 running as virtual machine on Integrity VM.
Actually we would like to migrate older applicaiton running on older PA-RISC servers (hardware - K580 and OS - HP-UX 10.20) to this new server and use aries for applicaiton emulation.
But we don't know the binaries, so we have took backup of all the filesystems (/ , /appl, /opt, /var, /tmp, /home) as it is from older server (PA-RISC server) using HP DATA PROTECTOR and resotored to new HP-UX 11.31 server running on Integrity VM with option "keep latest"
After that, the new server was working fine.
But for past few days it is very very slow.
We can realise the slowness while login to the server and read the files using ll.
How to solve this issue?

Re: HP-UX 11.31 running as virtual machine on Integrity VM is very slow
Please post hpvmstatus information on the virtual machine.
In general, applications from PA-RISC moved to IA-64 Itanium run slowly. The reason is the ARES emulator that takes care of the hardware abstraction uses a lot of resources.
The answer in general to performance issues is to increase the number of CPU's assigned to the virtual machine.
Make sure memory is adequate and there is not paging going on within the hpvm guest or the host system.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 running as virtual machine on Integrity VM is very slow
To test how much is Aries and how much is HPVM, you might take a bare-iron Integrity system and run some of your apps there. If they are no faster, then it is likely Aries. If they are faster then it is likely guest overhead. Not 100% in each case of course.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 running as virtual machine on Integrity VM is very slow
I am not finding any paging on that VM.
Example:
# swapinfo -m
Mb Mb Mb PCT START/ Mb
TYPE AVAIL USED FREE USED LIMIT RESERVE PRI NAME
dev 2048 0 2048 0% 0 - 1 /dev/vg00/lvol2
reserve - 1288 -1288
memory 1943 601 1342 31%
Hi ricks,
Where we have to check in host or guest whether HPVM with AVIO support enabled.
How to check that?

I am not seeing any paging from the command you have mentioned.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 running as virtual machine on Integrity VM is very slow
Do the what command on relevant binaries are PA-RISC or IA-64.
HP provides IA-64 binaries on all their major products so I'd recommend moving away from PA-RISC binaries where possible.

That script will help you identify problems within a guest.

might be a good starting point.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 running as virtual machine on Integrity VM is very slow
I think /var filesystem may be reaching the limit. /var/adm/wtmps and /var/adm/btmps to be trimmed (slow login issue).

Re: HP-UX 11.31 running as virtual machine on Integrity VM is very slow
I have downloaded thte file "system.perf.sh" and copied it ot /root.
Example:
# pwd
/root
# ll system.perf.sh
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root sys 958 Apr 16 08:38 system.perf.sh
#./system.perf.sh
The above commmand did not give any output.
How to find the output given by above command (script)?
Hi sudhakar,
Please find the output of bdf.
