HP-UX/11 printing to remote servers
Last weekend we upgraded a 9000 to HP-UX/11. Since the upgrade printing to our
remote print servers intermittently cause them 'lock up'. The devices do
respond to pings, however they do stop printing and integrated web browser will
not respond either. These lock ups occur several times a day, and can be
cleared up by cycling the power on the remote printers. To me it seems as if a
connection is being held open by our server, or at least not properly closed.
The previous HP-UX 10.20 did not have these problems.
Is this a known problem?
From the server is there something we should check to confirm my suspicions?

Re: HP-UX/11 printing to remote servers
1) Which printing utility are you using, JetDirect or JetAdmin ? Are the latest
patches installed for it ?
2) Are the "remote servers" HP9000 or the small print devices ? If the remote
servers _are_ HP9000, are they compatible with the print utility being used on
your recent upgraded system ?
3) Do the remote printers have the latest firmware/drivers updates to go with
your recent OS upgrade ?
4) Have you tried looking in the Technical Knowledge Base for similar problems
or questions ?
I hope these questions point you in the correct troubleshooting path! Good
Luck!

Re: HP-UX/11 printing to remote servers
The remote devices are simply print boxes running a lpd service. They all are
connected to the HP via WAN (56k frame relay).
I'll check with the manufacturer for any firmware upgrades that maybe required
for UX-11.
Oh, and were using the jetadmin facility to setup the HP side.
