Will hp-UX 11i (December 2001) be sufficient for all current and future PA-RISC introductions. Our image that we depoy is based on this specific release and I want to know if we are to expect some kind of revision in the near future (i.e. some kind of HWE planned?). I know that eventually the 11i streams for PA-RISC and IPF will merge, but am I good to go until then ?
Thanx,
Don

Re: hp-UX 11i amd PA-RISC
While my preference would be to start with the more recent installation media, application of the current Hardware Enablement bundle (HWE) from the SupportPlus suite should be sufficient.

Re: hp-UX 11i amd PA-RISC
Perhaps I should clarify ... We have an image based on hp-UX 11i December 2001 that has been pushed out to IGNITE servers globally and updating the image is quite a bit of work, when considerig the layering that takes place on top of the base OS. For that reason I would like to know whether or not that specific image is good enough for existing and future PA-RISC offerings.
To pinpoint a bit further, wiil that image (hp-UX 11i December 2001) run on the following: rp2740, rp5470, rp7410, and C3750. The future PA-RISC systems would be a "nice-to-know" thing, but I do need to know about these models in particular.
Regards.

Re: hp-UX 11i amd PA-RISC
Eventually 11i will become obsolte. That probably wont happen until there are two new major releases. 12 and 13 or whatever they call them.
That doesn't mean the new releases won't run on the old hardware, but at some point the OS is going to be too much for the old hardware.
I do know that HP isn't going to intentionally do something to the 11i release that will make it not work on your hardware. When they put up a comaptibility matrix for hardware that means until the OS is obsolted, and practically speaking even longer than that.
HP-UX being ported to the regular Intel platform is how the Compaq merger talks got started, if you believe the press on that. Though there are discrepencies, HP is trying to make HP-UX as similar as the hardware allows on any platform its going to run on.
