HP-UX 11i, March 2002

Hi, I just bought hp ux 11i with date of march 2002 on the plastic clear box.

I need to know exactly what to install so I can patch it completely with no errors. I know this OS is *VERY* picky, I couldn't get either 10.20 or 11 patched without errors, I have a working 11 but without latest patches, won't compile kernel and ended up installing Linux on the other machine which I might keep just for fun. I would like to upgrade my 11 to 11i and I want an error free install AND patching.

Thanks.

I would suggest you to do complete backups of data first. And continue with Cold Install to get error free Install. Apply necessary patches and do restore of backuped data.

Re: HP-UX 11i, March 2002

March 2002 was a very stable release.

Starting fresh however, I'd get the March 2003 Core OS, because it includes more pathes and thus less work after install.

If however you don't have a software contract, hyou can use March 2002 Core OS and should get a good, clean install.

Then you'll have to install the latest Quarterly Bundle, Gold Pack and HWE(hardware) releases.

Assuming the hardware is put together right you should get no errors.

Im not very happy with it. I got so many warnings and a few errors, ON A FRESH BRAND NEW INSTALL. They sure don't make it user friendly.

March 2002

Here is the error msg:

It shows Copyrights, etc etc, a description of cpm_collect and what it will do.. then:

And in that file there is:

Re: HP-UX 11i, March 2002

Ok, I remembered a similar issue with the 11 box, I modified the nsswitch.conf file to do

dns [NOTFOUND=continue] files

on all of the entries and it worked...

Take note :)

Re: HP-UX 11i, March 2002

Ok, now this is just frustrating by the minute!!!

Now the SWINSTALL is giving me an error!

"unix2:/": You do not have the required permissions to select this target. Check permissions using the "swacl" command or see your system administrator (which would be me, hehehe) for assistance. Or, to manage applications designed and packaged for nonprivileged mode, see the "run_as_superuser" option in the "sd" man page.

I'm logged on as root and the SWACL returns this:

ERROR: A valid edit level is needed for the sucessful execution of "swacl"(). The valid levels are:"host", "depot", "root", "product", "product_template", "global_product_template" or "global_soc_template".

I triend *ALL* and it keeps saying the same thing over and over and over and over ..... ARG!!!

Re: HP-UX 11i, March 2002

Here is the swacl error....

# swacl -l host -M user:root:wrcit
ERROR: An unexpected error occurred while performing the requested
operation on the "host" ACL at "unix2:/". This is probably
the result of a failed Remote Procedure Call to a daemon, a
failure in the SD ACL manager, or the improper removal of the
ACL. If this problem persists, contact your system
administrator.
