HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

Hello, dear ALL!
I have an HP 9000 D class server Model D220 an HP-UX v11 onboard. I don't really know what else is installed on that machine (i mean: paches, updates etc.). I am new to HP-UX and HP servers at all (but i have a good experience of working with UNIXes). So, I have the following problem:
The system failes to boot and i get the following messages on my console

Re: HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

The messgae "Unidentified cpu type returned from PDC_MODEL" makes me think that something is wrong with cpus put on this system. check all connections, cell boards and cables.

Hi Adel,

Make a call by HP. Your core cpu must be replaced.

You may need to install Latest HW patches to your system immediately. Also check this thread,

Re: HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

I think one of your cpu's is "dead" call HP if you have contract, otherwise search google for a replacement cpu. ( add on it could also be a defective main board)

Hi Adil,

If Ignite has anything to do with this issue, check this thread:

Re: HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

Hi,

When your system boot, I saw 'Unidentified cpu type returned from PDC_MODEL'. From here, it looks like you having a problem with your single CPU.

You can check also from BCH mode (just interupt the boot sequence when you see this message when the system up :

To discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds.

Check the information for PIM (piminfo). If there's something happened on your hardware, the timestamp will be updated.

It's good way to log a HW call to HP.

Hope this information can help you.

Cheers,

Re: HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

This could be a hardware problem.

But I'm wondering about this:

System Panic:
9245XB HP-UX (B.10.10) #3: Thu Feb 22 14:47:21 PST 1996

specifically "HP-UX (B.10.10)" since you tell us you're running 11.11.

Are you sure you have a working OS installation?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

Ok. Thank YOU for all of YOUR replies. It is more likely that there is a problem with CPU. I'll check the hardware for bad contacts etc. when i get the permission for opening it :)

No. I am not sure. But as the owner of this machine says, the OS works (this machine stands in one of our banks). The information about the version of OS is taken from machine's owner too. So, maybe, I have mistaken. Sorry.

Re: HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

They didn't by any chance clone this machine from another one using Ignite? Or receover it using Ignite recently?

Re: HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

Oooops!
Now I know what was the source of this problem. The owners have replaced the hard disks. The OS that i have now was not installed for this machine (I have just got this information). The main problem on this machine is that it sometimes reboots. They gave me some photos of the terminal during the occurence of the problem (See attachment). Unfortunately, they are not of a good quality.

Anyway, as soon as I install new OS on the system, I'll provide YOU with more information on the problem.

Re: HP-UX 11i System panic while booting

The best option is to install the system from scratch and patch it to a current level.

Once this is done, stress the system and watch the behavior.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
