HP-UX 11i V3

I am looking at moving a test system from 11i V1 to 11i V3. (cold install)

I know there is an evaluation tool available for migrating from V2 to V3 (MSV2V3Check) that check compatability and firmware versions of the hardware.

Is there a similar tool for evaluating the V1 systems? I am aware of firmware docs on the 11i V3 site, and have found them lacking on certain cards.

Re: HP-UX 11i V3

Being that you cannot directly upgrade from v1 to v3, I would assume the answer is, no. You would need to upgrade to v2 first and then you could use the tool.
"The difference between me and you? I will read the man page." and "Respect the hat." and "You could just do a search on ITRC, you don't need to start a thread on a topic that's been answered 100 times already." Oh, and "What. no points???"

Oops, nevermind. I finally saw the words "cold install".

Shalom,

In light of the information presented, you have a few alternatives.

1) Use the 11i v2 tool. Seems like it will probaby miss a lot.
2) Use the eyeball method. Check the docs, run the checks yourself. If your server is supported by the OS at all and is up to date on firmware there is little else to be concerned with.

I am aware that you cannot upgrade from V1 to V3

I am looking for a tool that will help me evalate the hardware on my rp4440 for compatability with V3. I have a network that one V3 doc says is not supported, and another doc that says it is.

SEP,

I did try the V2 tool, but unfortunately it will not load on a V1 system.......

Re: HP-UX 11i V3

Hi,

check this documents for supported devices.
It applies for the upgrade from 11iv1 to 11iv2, but a device without support in 11iv2 won't run in 11iv3 anyway.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP-UX 11i V3

Shalom,

I guessed the V2 tool would probably fail. Then its the eyeball method.

There really isn't all that much to check. Should not take more than 30 minutes.

If the documentation itself is poor, then let your local HP rep know.

Re: HP-UX 11i V3

The eyeball system it is - but it is the tip of the iceberg - 40 systems times 30 minutes tends to add up.

The test system is less that two years old, with factory installed cards. But one of the cards, AB352-60001 is not even listed in the doc (AB352-60003 is listed as not supported). In another doc, I found the following statement:

"If you have a system that has HP-UX 11i v1, 11i v2 of September 2004 or later, or 11i v3, and your networking or I/O product was either factory installed or was shipped before your systemâ s Operating Environment was released, you can ignore Table 1."

I would hope the last statement is true, versus the first.

I will have to contact the rep......

Hi,

I know you closed this thread, but I am curious to know for which network (card?) you found inconsistent support info and where. I would liketo get it fixed or clarified.

Thanks,

Marie.
