Re: HP-UX 11i Version 2
PA-RISC requirements are quite stringent. The processer must be 64 bit and the system must be on the supported list. I've heard of few users that have gotten it to run without those two conditions being met.

Re: HP-UX 11i Version 2
HP-UX 11.23 offers common *source* code for PA-RISC and for Itanium. However, different *object* code exists for the different architectures.
PA-RISC binaries (object) will execute on Itanium systems using the Aries emulator. On Itanium systems, this occurs automatically. In fact, both 32-bit and 64-bit PA-RISC binaries can be executed by Aries.
You cannot, however, execute Itanium binaries on PA-RISC machines. The instruction sets differ and no Aries equivalent emulation is available on the PA-RISC line. Remember, the PA-RISC evolution has reached its endpoint.

Re: HP-UX 11i Version 2
Some I/O cards and peripherals working with 11.11 and earlier versions are no longer supported with 11.23, e.g. all HVD SCSI.
You need to check this prior to the upgrade.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
