HP-UX Admin exam.

Hi guys...I'm scheduled to take my admin exam on July 2nd. Just wondering if there's any advice on what to expect. I've done the practice exam, and scored fairly high...does that give me a good idea of what's actually on the test?? Are there any more practice exams out there???

Thanx in advance...

Re: HP-UX Admin exam.

Hi, make sure you are up on NFS and NIS. If you study and do well on the practice exam you should have no problem. Good Luck!

Re: HP-UX Admin exam.

Make sure you know your netowrking stuff like NFS, NIS, subnetting, routeing, etc.

I took the test about 3 months ago and I scored high on the basic unix and system admin sections, but had problems on the networking section.

If you can get it on short notice, get the book "HP Certified: HP-UX System Administration" by Rafeeq Ur Rehman (ISBN 0-13-018374-1).

You can get it through Amazon, B&N online, or HP ( http://www.hp.com/go/retailbooks ).

Good luck to you.

Re: HP-UX Admin exam.

When I went to take the test the first time I scored and 85% on the practice test but then only scored a 69% on the real test. The real test was 82 questions long. My main two problem areas were printers and swap space. Also included in the test is managing logical volumes with LVM, and scripting. Hope this helps.

Re: HP-UX Admin exam.

Hi

The best advice I was ever given I now put a reminder at the top of the answer sheet.

RTFQ

READ THE FLIPPING QUESTION.

Re: HP-UX Admin exam.

Excellent advice, Paula...however, the word 'flippin' is not what comes to mind first.
Your advice is greatly appreciated, though...

Thanx to all

And of course, the advice your mother would have given you -- get plenty of rest before the exam. (like we have time for that?)

Re: HP-UX Admin exam.

Well, the exam is NOTHING like I expected...which is something, seeing as I didn't know what to expect. Needless to say, alot of bookwork is ahead of me before I attempt a rewrite. I think the first few questions threw me, and that set the pace for the whole exam. One can expect a few scripting questions right out of the gate, and STUDY NFS/NIS!!!

Better luck second time. I hear this test is tough, my friends took it twice in order to pass.

Re: HP-UX Admin exam.

It was pretty brutal, for sure...but I'm not planning on waiting too long before I give it another go. There has to be some other resources out there for practice tests. I didn't take the fundamentals of UNIX course...in retrospect, it may have been a good idea.

Re: HP-UX Admin exam.

Ron,
First of all, don't think that you know a subject area and skip over it. There is always something new you can learn. Second, try to attend the HP class for Experienced SA's, it is basically a prep for the cert. Third, as mentioned, get the HP Certified book. Go throught it until you have it memorized, and then go through it again.

Good Luck on the test,
Craig
