HP-UX as a PDC instead of Win2000

I found out that my HP-UX can not act as a primary domain controller when using CIFS/9000 (HP said that the new CIFS/9000 based on samba 2.2 "might" have this feature). Anyway, my users need to logon scripts and roaming profiles and want to buy a WIN2000?? for that. Is there any services/sotware that can be added on the HP-UX to allow it to be a PDC and still use the existing CIFS/9000 version?. Any other options. Please help before I fall off the UNIX wagon

Try installing samba on that machine too.

And only use it for PDC services.

We did not buy the Win2000 server machine yet. I am trying to eliminate the need for it.

I meant install samba on the UX machine for PDC services only.

Actually, the Active
Directory on Microsoft W2K is a kind of LDAP-server + Kerberos but with their own schema.
You could try a LDAP-server + Kerberos combination on HP-UX to make it a PDC.

I am using a 2.2.3a as a PDC on HP-UX 11 and it works. The samba that I use is a depot from HP. I am not sure what the difference between 9000cifs and Samba 2.2c. You can find this software at the following link. http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displaySearch.pl and do a search for CIFS. You should find a link cifs/9000 server 2.2c.
