HP-UX CDE Logon "Screen Save" Mode

Greetings to all,

I would like to first say that I thoroughly enjoy being part of the HP-UX environment, it?s just fascinating. I strongly believe it?s a solid OS.

I am hoping that you can help me solve the following problem:

Background Information:
Currently we upgraded our workstation to c3600 Visualize stations. Oddly, one of the workstations, when the user logs out of CDE, and is displaying the CDE logon banner, the system or I should say the monitor does not go into a ?screen saver? mode, while all of the other stations, after I think 10 minutes, the screen goes blank, please note that the monitors do not go into power saver mode, they just go blank. On the ?working? systems, once the user moves the mouse or taps on the keyboard, the ?screen saver? stops and is presented with CDE login screen. As I understand it, monitors nowadays aren?t as sensitive as compared to the old green phosphorous tubes that used to get the curser imaged burned onto the tube. It?s being bothering me that 6 systems or ok and this just ?doesn?t act? like the other ones. The system came pre-installed with HP-UX 10.20 ACE 99 (I am not sure on what version of ACE). Currently running CAD/CAM/CAE packages, with a Logicad Space ?Puck? attached to it via serial port 1

Question:
Has anyone experienced this situation; if not, any ideas will greatly be appreciated. Note that I somewhat of a newbie, enough to be dangerous.

Also, what are your opinions on taking HP-UX/Unix classes through HP Education course? Any feedback will also be appreciated.

Thanks everyone for your time and efforts.

Re: HP-UX CDE Logon "Screen Save" Mode

Daniel,

Yes, we have seen this problem before. A set of patches will resolve it. I am trying to find the exact patches required, but I believe they include one or more kernel patches (USB, ITE) as well as the X server.

I'll try to post the required patch list later today.

Re: HP-UX CDE Logon "Screen Save" Mode

Alex,

Thanks for the reply. I went to Sam as you suggested, but didn't see any settings regarding the power save level. Is there a Unix equivalent that I might not be aware of?

If you want, I can "screen capture" the various dialog boxes for you, if that will help.
