HP-UX image migration
Dear HP-UX user,
R&D would like to gain a better understanding of the customers’ requirements around the disk image migration feature on HP-UX for software manageability. These requirements can be considered as we plan our solutions through 2010.
Disk image migration may be used to handle system replacement or replication of identical systems. It is often accomplished by disconnecting the disk from one system and reconnecting it to another. At times, user may used the UNIX ‘dd’ command to copy the contents of one disk to another manually.
Your input will help determine the direction we need to pursue to support this feature. Please take a few minutes to respond to the following questions.
1. If you have manually moved/copied a disk image from one system to another, how frequent do you perform this operation?
____ 1-9 times a year
____ 10-19 times
____ Over 20 times
2. From and to where do you migrate the disk image? (Check all that apply)
____ PA-RISC to PA-RISC
____ Integrity platform to Integrity platform (platform includes standalone server, blade)
____ vPar to Integrity VM
____ vPar to vPar
____ Integrity VM to Integrity VM
____ Integrity VM to Integrity platform
____ Others (Please specify) _________________________________
3. Have you created a process to automate such operation?
____ Yes
____ No
If yes, please explain _________________________________________
__________________________________________________________
4. Would you find any significant value of a whitepaper that describes series of manual steps for migrating disk images from one system to another?
____ Very useful
____ Somewhat useful
____ Not useful
5. If the image migration functionality is being automated with some constraint limitations, rate the following constraints in the order of acceptance with 1 being the less acceptable.
____ LVM only
____ VxVM only
____ One physical disk/LUN for all OS content
____ 11.31 only
____ Integrity VM to Integrity VM
____ Integrity VM to Integrity blade
____ Integrity blade to Integrity VM
6. Have you successfully performed system recovery across dissimilar systems?
____ Yes, done it once successfully
____ Yes, successfully used it as our standard process
____ No, tried once but failed
____ Yes, used it in a non-production environment
____ Never done it
7. Additional comments and suggestions on your image migration experience.

8. Are you willing to participate in follow-up activities regarding this survey?
____ Yes Please provide email: ______________________________
____ No
Your insights are extremely valuable in our efforts to continuously improve HP-UX products and services.
Thank-you for your participation.
