Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440

Hi,

I don't know what manual you are talking about, but you must connect your laptop to the "console" port on the black "W" cable.

There is only one console for this machine.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440

The "serial A / console" port is only active if there is no MP installed.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440

hi prasanth,

There should be a "W" cable came with a server, connect the W cable on the console of the server. There are three port in the W cable UPS, Remote, Serial, connect your labtop on serial port. Then set your emulation to vt100.

This must be from another device (switch?).

Just use a null modem cable between the W cable and your laptop.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440

Shalom,

rp3440 servers have a lan based console that can be configured by using the serial console.

There is a connector on the core I/O on the back of the server. It should have a black connector with three cables hanging off of it. One is marked console.

Connect your serial console or laptop to that, Immediately after connecting you should see the MP/GSP prompt.

From there you can run he and run through a setup program to configure the network console.

Then from the comfort of your own desk you can do your installation.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440

Alternative:

The MP is set to DHCP by default.
The name is mp, e.g.
mp12345678

If you have a DHCP server in your environment, try to connect the MP to the network and telnet to the MP.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440

Hi Prasanth,

The option is to use 9 pin with Lan connector.

By default there will be factory username/passwd for ILO access.Since it is new installtion you can log a call with HP paralely.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440

There is something wrong with the manual you have or the sentence has more words in it such as "do not use the UPS or the remote connector as your serial console". Out of the box, your rp3440 has no address associated with the LAN-console so don't bother trying to use that. You would need a special serial crossover LAN cable anyway. You do not have the correct bale. Put all the cables away that do not have 9pin female connector on both ends. Then see if what you have left is a cable marked as a "printer" or "null modem" or "crossover" cable. If not, you cannot connect your laptop. Go to the PC store and purchase a 9pin-to-9pin female-female printer cable. Then use hyperterminal set to 9600 8n1 settings and connect to the rp3440 using the W cable and the connector marked "console".
