HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440
I have an installation in a customer place wheere they are having HP RP3440 server. Iwant to install the HPUX 11i V2 on this server.
I am not yet clarirfed by reading the manual which is came along with the server, How to configure the Console?
Pls send me a step to step idea regarding the configuration of the console.
My console will be a laptop .
In the manuaql its saying that serial port should not be used. Then how to connect to laptop for configuring the Terminal emulation software?
Again thanx to everybody.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440
I don't know what manual you are talking about, but you must connect your laptop to the "console" port on the black "W" cable.
There is only one console for this machine.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440
There should be a "W" cable came with a server, connect the W cable on the console of the server. There are three port in the W cable UPS, Remote, Serial, connect your labtop on serial port. Then set your emulation to vt100.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440
I found the cable. But its having a 25 pin female connector and 9 pin male connector in either side.
How i will connect the malw connector to the COM port inthe laptop.
I Found one more cable which is having RJ45 Connector in one end and 9 PIN SERIIAL in other side. Is this i can connect to the iLO port of the server and the Laptop.
Pls Confirm..

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440
This must be from another device (switch?).
Just use a null modem cable between the W cable and your laptop.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440
rp3440 servers have a lan based console that can be configured by using the serial console.
There is a connector on the core I/O on the back of the server. It should have a black connector with three cables hanging off of it. One is marked console.
Connect your serial console or laptop to that, Immediately after connecting you should see the MP/GSP prompt.
From there you can run he and run through a setup program to configure the network console.
Then from the comfort of your own desk you can do your installation.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440
The MP is set to DHCP by default.
The name is mp
mp12345678
If you have a DHCP server in your environment, try to connect the MP to the network and telnet to the MP.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP Ux installation in HP RP 3440
The option is to use 9 pin with Lan connector.
By default there will be factory username/passwd for ILO access.Since it is new installtion you can log a call with HP paralely.
