HP-UX Integrity Virtual Machines and a Backup Solution
Hi,
Has anybody any idea on a backup solution for an Integrity server running HP-UX Virtual Machines. I am looking at setting one up, but I can't find any recommended way to back the server up, which looks difficult as it isn't possible to create virtual tape drives.

Shalom,
Ignite.
make_tape_recovery for tape
make_net_recovery for network.
Should be used to back up the OS, which I assume your is your question.

Re: HP-UX Integrity Virtual Machines and a Backup Solution
The Integrity Server is running (or should be) HP-UX 11iV2, Foundation OE (Enterprise OE is OK too). I mention that because the server is a standard HP-UX server and backup solutions can be used for that server, including Ignite-UX.
Note the VM storage may not be in a mounted file system, so you'll need to backup the logical storage used by the VMs (for example, logical volumes or LUNs for JBOD).

Re: HP-UX Integrity Virtual Machines and a Backup Solution
Ignite is a good tool for backing up the OS. Typically this would be the root volume group (vg00) but can include others. It is not recommended for use in the backup of data across an entire system.
Other options for backups of data are dump, vxdump, tar, cpio, etc. These are utilities that are included with the base OS and can be used for backups of data.
Cost products are numerous! Data Protector, Veritas, Legato, etc...
