D... but if you look here: http://www.levenez.com/unix/history.html#03 it started at System 3 (I didn't know that either untill I followed it back).

Re: HP-UX is based most directly on which of the following Unix definitions?

HP-UX version 9, as I recall, was more like BSD, then with version 10 it was switched to look more like Sys.V.

I remember an HP tech telling me this on the phone, before we converted from 9.4 to 10.2.

Re: HP-UX is based most directly on which of the following Unix definitions?

a) is called berkeley systems derivate, not definition
b) Linux is no unix, it is only a (very famous, and considered good) clone, derivating from Minix. the 'definition' of linux might be united linux, or the linux standards base.
c)is a web browser
d) system V interface definition would only be a subset of system V, so one might argue that all the answers You are to chose from are bit wrong, especially as they imply every answer would be a 'unix definition'

d) would be the answer they'd like to hear as long as were talking about current versions of hp-ux.

and e)
I'd ask You to do Your exam research alone in the future, even though it's good to document things here, all this is easy enough to look up, or at least please move over to the training section of the hp-ux forum.
please don't take this as offensive, but You're not helping Yourself.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Re: HP-UX is based most directly on which of the following Unix definitions?

There are many Berkley elements in HP-UX. While there is the AT&T original df for example there is the bdf for berkely disk free command. So while it is SVID, there are parts of Berkley added to make it a hybrid.

Re: HP-UX is based most directly on which of the following Unix definitions?

The answer is " D " .

Unix was basically created by Bell ( Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie ) , but AT&T
officially declared the support of Unix and initially calld it SVR-Release III , but later made some updates and named it SVR-Rel4
.BSD unix was developed by some universities .

The first page of the HP-UX Reference manual, Volume 1, has the answer. You can do a man introduction.
