I have a K210 box running HPUX 10.20 that will not boot. I lasted logged in on January 7th and just tried to login today.
The LCD panel on the front of the box says:
INIT C440
CPU0
It will not boot past that point.
What has failed?

Solution
Hi,
PROBLEM:
While booting up the system, the system hangs with a message in the lower left-hand corner of the console that displays:
INIT C440
RESOLUTION:
The "INIT C440" indicates the system could not initialize the system console during bootup. This can happen if the terminal itself is in an incorrect mode or for other reasons.
To fix the problem:
1. Reset the system console by turning off the console.
2. Hold down the "D" key and continue to hold the key down while powering up the console.
3. Wait 10 - 15 seconds, and then release the key.
4. A message should appear in the lower left-hand part of the screen displaying:
'Default configs used, press any key to clear'
5. Press [Return] and the LED display on the computer should start to go through the self-tests.

Re: HP-UX K210 box will not boot
Never thought to search for it. Stupid me.
That solved my problem. It booted right up.
I now remember someone telling me they dropped something on the keyboard. I told them it happens some times.
Whatever they dropped must have pressed some strange key combination that the Sunday night reboot did not like.
Thanks!

Re: HP-UX K210 box will not boot
I would add a little...
Usually this issue C440 happens when someone occasionally presses F4 key - and turns off terminal's remote mode. So the first thing to check if you have C440 issue is if terminal has asterisk in the 'remote mode' field on the screen. If not, then press F4 and see at results - just after F4 pressed server continues to boot.
The disadvantage of full terminal reset with 'D' key if that everything got reset, even terminal color (black on white or white on black)
Eugeny
