HP-UX on Windows 2000 NTFS partitions?

Sunday 21 October 2001.

Hello.

Will HP-UX (or Solaris 8) install on a Windows
2000 NTFS partition in a personal computer?

Thank you for your help.

Re: HP-UX on Windows 2000 NTFS partitions?

You can not boot an HP system from a mounted file system, not a Solaris 8 - not even the intel version. First HPux does not run on intel, second, HPux requires an HFS file system to boot from.

Now, you can use NTFS file shares on HPux and Solaris, especially if you use SAMBA. You can even make HPux and Solaris filesystems available as NTFS via SAMBA to MS users.

Hi:

Sorry, that dog won't hunt. Unlike Solaris, HP-UX does not have an Intel port (other than Itanium).

You can use Samba to access files on a Windows box or use NFS to access files. If you need to actually run HP-UX, you are going to have to purchase an HP box. The good news is that many of the older workstation can be purchased very cheaply on the used equipment market.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
