HP-UX Operating System License, Servers

Dear all,
I need your urgent help. The deal is that
I am new to HP Unix, and am tring to much completely understand how components work in
HP Unix environmen.
I have 715/100 under HP Unix 9.x and would like to order new 10.20. But here is one not clear moment: I know that I have to order
HP-UX Operating System License Servers but I am not sure if I should order 2 user license
addition. Does HP-UX Operating System License Servers include 2 user license?
Should I order 2 user license extra?
I understand what these licenses mean but
do not understand ordering process.
Thank you for your time.

Re: HP-UX Operating System License, Servers

Hi:

To obtain licenses (codewords) go to:

http://licensing.hp.com/index.slm

Once you have a codeword, the license is extracted from the Application CD.

A LAN connection, regardless of the user count, is considered one license; the console port is considered a second.

Yes, if you install hp-ux 10.20 it will include a 2 user license. This should be fine for your 715, assuming you don't have plans to allow multiple users dialin access all at once.

Re: HP-UX Operating System License, Servers

A 2-Userlicense is the default minimum license you will get.For a workstation, unless you plan to have someone in on the console, somone in via a serial and then someone in via the network,, this should do.

However, if there are going to be 8 people logging onto the box via telnet at the same time, this is only counted once for PHYSICAL license check, but LEGALLY you should have an 8-User license to cater for that situation.

Re: HP-UX Operating System License, Servers

Just by the standard 2 user license. Do not buy more. The way HP counts users HP-UX you need 1 user for the console and 1 user for everybody who logs in via the LAN. I have never heard of HP hassling anybody over Unix licensing because SUN and their other competitors only require a 2 user license. To require more would be marketplace suicide.
