HP-UX Patch Information

Guys,

Understand that by providing the patch id eg.PHSS_30011 from ITRC>>standard patch bundles - find patch bundles, we are able to retrieve the required patch bundles.

In the above patch id PHSS_30011, it resulted in 2 patch bundles, namely GOLDAPPS11i and GOLDBASE11i.

Either patch bundles can be installed in order to have patch PHSS_30011 applied?

I performed ITRC>>Find individual patches. For a new version of a patch, the new patch_id will be reflected under â Most Recentâ column of the search result. Am I right?

thanks n regards

Hi,

to be on the safe side you can use the column in the middle - "recommended"
for PHSS_30011

Re: HP-UX Patch Information

(1) Either patch bundles contain the patch PHSS_30011, you may not need to install the bundle which contains many other patches, if you just need this one PHSS_30011.

(2) If PHSS_30011 is being replaced by a newer patch, in this case replaced by PHSS_30788, then the 'Most Recent' column shows the latest patch instead.

Re: HP-UX Patch Information

Hi Cliff,

As Mei said, this patch has been replaced by PHSS_30788, which contains a couple of usefull bug fixes.

If you're not sure which bundle to install, or you're not comfortable with the idea of installing a patch bundle to get this fix, you can install PHSS_30011 or preferably PHSS_30788 by itself. Neither patch has any dependencies on other patches, so either patch can be installed independently.

I usually recommend patch bundles for patches that have lots of dependencies and you don't want to spend the time and energy resolving all the patch dependencies. The bundles offer a nice way of getting all dependencies resolved in one shot. However, this patch doesn't have any dependencies, so it really depends on your company's patch strategy - are you a shop that likes to patch for individual problems or proactively apply bundles in the hopes of avoiding future problems before they hit?

If you know that PHSS_30011/30788 contains the fixes you need, then you should consider installing the single patch - unless you're wanting to go the patch bundle route to get lots and lots of patches in one shot.

Regards,

Dave
