Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

execute the following and post them here:

netstat -rvn

ioscan -fn -C lan

lanscan

go into lanadmin, select lan, then set ppa = 0 and increment up by 1 for the number of lan cards you have, then select display (post that here)

you should apply the MOST current patch bundle: http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/releasePage.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.bundle|patch.breadcrumb.releaseIndexPage|&releaseId=5013-3299

also, is it possible you have a process that is looking for telnet sessions and killing them??

This is the output after ppa is set to 1. I have totally 2 lan cards, only one of them is active. I don't how to check for a process which is killing telnet session.it happens to other users also

I am not able to open telnet session immediately after it was closed. it takes some time to open a new session.

Thanks a lot for your help

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

What are the messages in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log when the telnet sessions close? Something should be logged.

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

Have you had any telnet disconnects since restarting this system?

From:
Mar 21 15:34:01 pion syslogd: restart
To
Mar 21 18:26:53

I dont see any errors in the 3 hours since your syslogd daemon was restarted.

Maybe do a grep of telnet out of the OLDsyslog.log

$ grep -i telnet OLDsyslog.log

Hi, ihave dot the above output when i grepped. it is real that there is no errorlog for last 3 hours, but some time back i have seen an snmp and socket error message in the same logfile

What about auto negotiation? Is it on or off?

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

ndd -get /dev/ip ip_ire_gw_probe.
what is your setting??

For help do as follows.

ndd -h ip_ire_gw_probe

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

And if you have network tracing and logging enabled(with nettl), try debugging the log file with netfmt.

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

Hi,i don't know about auto negotiation, pls let me know how to check if it is on/off.
i have started nettl using nettl -st, Now, how can i debug using netfmt.

the o/p of ndd is as follows

# ndd -h ip_ire_gw_probe

ip_ire_gw_probe:

Enable dead gateway probes. This option should only be disabled on
networks containing gateways which do not respond to ICMP echo
requests (ping).
[0-1] Default: 1 (probe for dead gateways)

# ndd -get /dev/ip ip_ire_gw_probe

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

To check autonegotiation feature use
lanadmin -x ppa

To debug nettl logs, check if the file /var/adm/nettl.LOG00 has been created. Then
netfmt -v -f /var/adm/nettl.LOG00

i am attching nettl.LOG000 logfile.

pls let me know what is wrong.

Thanks again

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

Hi Radhakrishna,

"ppa" should be the ppa number of your nic, in your case 0 or 1.

I cannot view the nettl logs myself. Do not have access to any lab system. Did you try the netfmt? In which file was you las message logged?

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

Hi Neol,

# lanadmin -x 0
Speed = 100 Full-Duplex.
Autonegotiation = On.

This message was logged in the last 10 lines of netfmt -v -f /var/adm/nettl.LOG000

Thanks and Regards,

Re: HP-UX telnet session closes in frequent intervals

It is best to turn autoneg off if you are sure that you are communicating with devices at 100mbps and at no other speed.
