HP-UX update for JRE / JDK

Hi,

My environment consists of HP-UX 11.11 and 11.23 servers. Java version is 1.4
Based on the site,http://secunia.com/advisories/34233/2/, there is a need to update java.

Is it critically recommended to upgrade because I am afraid it will affect application modules?

Please advice.

Before going to update your java, take 1 copy of ignite backup it will help you, after upgreade if application is giving error then you can revert back.

I'm not sure this will help since java is usually in /opt which may not be backed up by ignite?

Anyway, this new release is not tested in weblogic 8.1. So, we cannot go ahead.

Hi,

you can install several java versions!
Then you can tell every application which java version is to be used by modifying the PATH variable.

before upgrading Java, you need to test the compatibility of existing applications supporting the new version.

Weblogic comes with its own packaged Java version with the software. It is not recommended to ugprade Java alone , please check the BEA site for the latest patches.
