HP-UX updating 10.20 -> 11.00
I would like to update HP-UX 10.20 to 11.00, but the following ERROR had detected during running swinstall command:
+ Xserver.XEXT-DPMS,r=B.11.00,a=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64,v=HP,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64
+ Xserver.XEXT-HPCR,r=B.11.00,a=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64,v=HP,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64
Xserver.XEXT-MBX,r=B.11.00,a=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64,v=HP,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64
+ Xserver.XEXT-RECORD,r=B.11.00,a=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64,v=HP,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32/64

======= 09/17/03 13:25:23 gmt END swinstall SESSION (non-interactive)
The "swinstall" command was:
/usr/sbin/swinstall -x logdetail=true -x allow_incompatible=false -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true -x reinstall=true -x reinstall_files=true -x os_name=HP-UX:32 -x os_release=B.11.00 -s /cdrom
Before running swinstall I had upgraded "HP-UX Software Distributor" to version B.11.00 according to documentations:
Installing HP-UX 11.0 and Updating HP-UX 10.x to 11.0
HP-UX 11.0 Installation and Update Guide
SW-DIST B.11.00 HP-UX Software Distributor
SW-GETTOOLS B.11.00 HP-UX Software Distributor Gettools

Re: HP-UX updating 10.20 -> 11.00
ERROR: "hpuxn04:/": This operation will exceed the absolute limit
of disk space on 1 volumes.
* The analysis phase failed for "hpuxn04:/".
* Analysis had errors.
And it also told you to check the swagent log:
NOTE: More information may be found in the agent logfile (location
is hpuxn04:/var/adm/sw/swagent.log).
You should look at /var/adm/sw/swagend.log or if unsure post it here so we can look at it.

Re: HP-UX updating 10.20 -> 11.00
I'd certainly increase the size of /var if you could, 97% full with only 15MB left!
If you run the interactive swinstall (if you like just run the analysis but don't actually do the install) it'll show you exactly what filesystems need to be increased and by how much.
Also you might find this information in the log file, if I remember correctly its /var/adm/sw/swagent.log or maybe swagentd.log.
hope that helps,
Kevin.

Re: HP-UX updating 10.20 -> 11.00
This is also reason 671 why its better to cold install the OS.
The 11.11 updater is better and still resulted in a 35% failure rate in HP's labs when I went to HP's hands on class in 2002.

Re: HP-UX updating 10.20 -> 11.00
Best advice I can give you is DON'T.
Don't upgrade - save all your relevant config files, home dirs, etc. & do a cold install of 11.0.
Upgrades very seldom go w/o errors or trouble.
Cold installs are clean & then you just apply you old configs, users, home dirs etc. & off you go.
Rgds,
Jeff
