HP-UX Upgrade doubt
I want to upgrade from HP-UX 11.11 to 11.23.
If there are some DLKM loaded, what will happen to them when I upgrade.
What is recommended method?

Re: HP-UX Upgrade doubt
1) Make sure the hardware is supported.
2) Make sure you have a good make_tape_recovery tape.
3) Old hands will probably recommend the following:
a) wait, the release is new and will be heavily patched.
b) cold install, its been the best way in the past.

Re: HP-UX Upgrade doubt
SEP's advise are good. I would just like to add that reinstalling is a good opportunity to clean out unwanted files and start fresh.
If you data is on separate VGs you can import them after installing.
If this is a test system I would do the upgrade just to get the practice.
Regards,
Trond

Re: HP-UX Upgrade doubt
Ofcourse, you need to follow all of Steven and Trond's
suggestions (particularly which h/w are supported
by 11.23) and I agree that cold install is the best
way to go, if possible; but if you must do an update,
then DLKMs will handle them nicely (or atleast, _supposed_ to handle OS updates nicely :-) ).
If you are bothered about IPFilter DLKMs (there are
only a few DLKMs on 11.11) like "pfil" and "ipf", then
I know for a fact that they will update to 11.23 without
any problem.
