HP-UX v11.00 and v11.11 (11i)

What's the difference between v11.00 and v11.11 (11i)? I'm installing two new systems (J5000 & L2000) and was wondering which version I should use and why.

Thanks.

Right now most of the differences are in the options. So if you don't have a superdome it really isn't nessasary to use 11i. Also look at what software you purchase to put on there, 11 lets use install it as needed. 11.i has moved from application CD's to placing software in bundles. It could cause you to have to over buy to get 1 or 2 products

We have 11.0.

Recently, I had to install Java SDK and RTE 1.2 for HP-UX. Before I installed the RTE I had to install 7 patches.

If I had 11i I would not have to install any patches.

Re: HP-UX v11.00 and v11.11 (11i)

HP-UX 11i ( the i being for internet, believe it or not) is hte newest version of HP-UX 11.x available. It adds in more functionality for certain hings, rolls in a lot of patches, and enables newer systems/hardware.
It al comes down to do you really need 11i, or would you be ok with 11.00, which is fairly stable.

The decision is really yours.

Re: HP-UX v11.00 and v11.11 (11i)

hpux 11i is supported on the ns the superdome and ls and some 700 series.

It requires 4G disk and at least 64M mem.

HPUX11i steps a little closer to 5 9s in terms that you can online add and replace PCI cards.
ie no reboot to replace a failed card... depending of course if the hw supports it.. and the ns for sure do since a few weeks. the superdome did since around january/december.

You can also change kernel params online without need for reboot.

The licencing is much easier. You licence based on bundle of software.

VxVM storage administrator is new too/

You can export NFS filesystems by TCP.

other than that 11i is the same as 11!!

what I like about 11i is that no patches are required as dependancies before installing most software!
