hp-ux10.01 hp9000 linksys router - can not telnet

We have an HP 9000 with hp-ux 10.01. We have created a local network with 2 PC's, and can telnet within our local network. We are using a cable connection for the internet to the linksys router.

Problem: We can not access the HP box from outside world.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You will need to configure DNS resolving:Add you is (are) your nds server, that means update/configure /etc/resolv.conf, you can also modify /etc/nsswitch.conf.I have at home configured a little lan (Im at home now...) with 2 pc (NT4 and linux) and a sun workstation( I have a hp715/100 and a b130 not plugged or configured yet by lack of time and screen)) I use my modem/router(netopia) to find out my internet provider's DNS and put that info in resolv.conf...Good luckVictor

Re: hp-ux10.01 hp9000 linksys router - can not telnet

It's a very good thing that you cannot access your box from the outside. By default, most Linksys routers 'do the right thing' by denying all access/responses (even ping) by default. Before you expose your very obsolete 10.01 system to the Internet, you'll need to read a lot about security for HP-UX, most especially concerning setting up a Trusted system. Then read about opening a telnet port on your Linksys. Note that even if this box can be trashed, if anyone gains access to this box, they can explore all the other boxes on your network.

I would never allow a telnet connection to an unsecure system in a local network. Install 11.11 on your HP 9000, then add Bastille (free) and OpenSSH. Now you can open port 22 on your router and communicate with your 9000 using SSH (you'll need SSH on your other computer too).
