HP-UX11.00 or Debian?

Hi all,

is there any chance to install HP-UX 11.00 on a 712 HP workstation with only 2 GB harddisk (196MB memory) with CDE? I have already performed a minimal installation (with networking), but no CDE. I have tried also a Debian installation - the minimal one was fine but when I've tried to install also CDE (running tasksel from base-config) I have received a Kernel Fault Code 15. I'm trying to get into use this workstation, but I need CDE.

Thanks!

Hi,

No problem !
I have a similar system running with CDE as well.
Runs fine.

Re: HP-UX11.00 or Debian?

Hi,
With 2G it is fine, but try to not use LVM, or try to build / on the full disk in order to avoid to loose to much disk space. I've already succesfully installed a 11.00 on 1Gb disk (but without CDE). With 2Gb, you can installed everything. But in case of patche bundle installation, don't hesitate to do some clean work under /var/adm/sw/patche (you can also use PATCH_NO_SAVE file).
Good luck.

Re: HP-UX11.00 or Debian?

CDE requires approx 52 MB of disc space for a single language (locale), in order to run, a system should be configured with a minimum of 24 MB RAM .... so it maybe a tight fit but should work .... problem being installing additional patches and applications I guess.

Re: HP-UX11.00 or Debian?

Hi,

I used default hp-ux installation, and also installed some patch bundles, to get up to date. (this took some time, but went fine)

I cannot look at the exact situation as I am not at home right now.

Re: HP-UX11.00 or Debian?

Thank you,

I have to try again with HP-UX.
Currently I have Debian on my box - so it will take me some time to re-install Unix...
