the system didn??t start
it remains on the line
:disk (2/0/7.5.0.0.0.0.0;0) /stand/vmunix

Re: hp9000 735/125 hard boot problem

Alf,

This is the point in the boot process where it loads the kernel into RAM and can take some time. How long has it been stuck there? I would give it at least 5 minutes before I paniced.

Re: hp9000 735/125 hard boot problem

1) Interrupt boot process and enter in to boot console menu.
2) Check all hardware (memory, cpu etc) and search for disk and tape devices. Make sure all detects right and works properly.
3) Check for any HPMC errors
4) Try booting in single user mode (hpux -is) after getting to ISL prompt.
5) If it still hangs, then try booting from another kernel - /stand/vmunix.prev (or any other copy you have)
6) Try booting in LVM maintenance mode.
7) Try booting from recovery CD.

Re: hp9000 735/125 hard boot problem

If you have recently moved a new kernel to production, do this:

Interupt on the console at the 10 second prompt

bo pri

Y Interact with the ISL

hpux /stand/vmunix.prev

If this works, its just a bad kernel.
