hp9000 and surestore autoloader 1/9

I have an hp 9000 running 11.0 and am trying to get
a surestore autoloader 1/9 to work. The mechanical
arm functions using the mc command, however I can not write to dlt drive in the autoloader. Could it be the controller? I am using A28696-60001, HP-PB 16 bit differential SCSI for the autoloader. I have a standalone dlt Quantum 8000 which uses a
HSC f/w scsi controller, A2969A. The autoloader is high voltage. Is that the case for both controllers? How can I tell? Is there another explanation for me not being able to tar to the device

Re: hp9000 and surestore autoloader 1/9

The autoloader looks like a DLT drive to the system. Since mc is working, you have communication and yes, if the robotic arm is SCSI FWD-HV then the tape drive is the same. Did you jumper the tape drive to the robotic arm as shown in this document:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg70531&locale=en_US&prodSeriesId=34114&prodTypeId=12169

HP-UX will see the drive once the two interfaces are jumpered together. If you did not jumper them with the short cable, you can do that and then follow up with the command: insf -e to scan and create any missing device files. Use ioscan -knfCtape to see if the missing drive has shown up.

ioscan -knfC tape

It will show all tape drives and their associated device files. What error are you getting from tar and with tar, you are using a device file. What does lssf /dev/rmt/ show you about the I/O channel?

Did you also set it correctly in the kernel with the correct device drivers? Did you create an appropriate device for the robot. The attached document will assist.
