I just bought this server at a auction for my home network.Do I need any software to use it and how do I hook it up to my home network?

Unless it came with a preloaded operating system, yes you will need to get your hands on HPUX install media and no it is not free software, though, if you have any friends in a data center environment running HPUX servers, they can find you an older set of installation CDs. The latest OS version you can run is version 11.11 as far as I know.

From the nature of your question, you do not seem to realize what the innards of this server are. So, it might not be a best fit for you "to put it on your home network". HPUX, together with not being rocket science, takes a little more than normal time to learn and is not primarily designed for home users.

So, having said that, unless you are ready to invest some time (it is not few hours or days, but more like months), it would be in your best interest to sell it on fleabay, although even there D-class machines do not sell easily and do not worth anything to start with.

Good luck.

Shalom,

Well you need OS media.

HP-UX 11.11 is the most recent media that will work with that server.

Do a simple OS install, and configure networking in the Ignite Interface.

If it boots, you can use set_parms ipaddress to make it work with your home network.

I find HP-UX works better with a fixed IP address.
