Have you checked all of the hardware connections? (ie: ribbon and power cables.) I would then try interactively booting by hitting key when it says to.

Things to check

1. Are you booting from the correct device? What is your primary device set for? type sea at break to see bootable devices.

2. Are you booting from internal or external device? If external, is it power on device as well? If internal, do you see power to the drive internal drive?

3. Check all cable connections.

hope this helps.

Re: hp9000 hangs at boot, boot device not ready

You did not include the model of the box in question, but ................

There should be a green LED on the front of each drive. At boot time the green light will go on and after a short while go off. It will not go on again until disk IO is being done. If your boot drive green LED goes on at power up time and does not go out then you have either a weak or dead motor on the drive.

FYI, if you can boot ODE from your support CD you can use MAPPER to ping the drive without the need for a boot drive. This is a good way to check to see if the drive is truly toes up.
Should this be the case, attempt to boot several more times. Sometimes these do get up to speed on their own after a while. If you get lucky, GET A BACKUP DONE QUICK!

If you don't get lucky then it is time to replace the drive. Hope you had a backup.

Re: hp9000 hangs at boot, boot device not ready

Hi,
had the same problem last night : remote server, other country, other language; sounds familiar

some things to check/try:
1. if you power on the server do the LED's of the disks light up? If not check power to this disks!
2. in the boot menu search for bootable devices
If boot disk is missing: check scsi connector, might be gone forever
If more disk are missing: check scsi connectors and terminators
If you have a mirrored system disk, you can boot from the mirror.

[ my problem was solved by replacing the scsi terminator; hmmz just reminds me I still have to shoot the guy who removed it ;) ]
good luck,
Thierry

Check your led of disk.

Re: hp9000 hangs at boot, boot device not ready

Interrupt the boot and issue an SEA.

If the SEA reports the disk as a potentially bootable device, try to boot from it.

If you don't get ISL prompt, you may have to recover the LIF areas from the support CD.

... once your cables are okay and well terminated, and you don't have duplicated scsi ids etc...

Later,
Bill
It works for me (tm)

wow, low points awarded
so I suppose that your problem is not solved yet?
