hpnpd is not running
I have noticed the message "hpnpd is not running...no job monitor" in my /var/spool/lp/log, as below:
lp45-8230 chg034 lp45 May 21 09:28
Start: lp45-8230 Mon May 21 09:28:57 EDT 2007
End: lp45-8230 Mon May 21 09:29:46 EDT 2007
hpnpd is not running, no job monitor
/etc/lp/interface/model.orig/lp45 nb landscape fp13 lpi9 tl072 weight2
/opt/hpnp/bin/hpnpf -j lp45-8230+chg034 -a3 -x chglaser
I have checked and there is indeed no "hpnpd" daemon running. I am getting this message on specific printers, not all of them.
With that being said, this particular printer is attached to an external jet direct box.
Thankfully we only have a few of these still left hanging around.
I found one tkb article (KBAN00000189) that mentions hpnpd as well as a parm file named
/opt/hpnp/etc/hpnpdtab where you would code front panel configured printers.
My question(s) would be: 1) is the hpnpd message anything that I need to be concerned with, and 2) is there any advantage of populating the hpnpdtab ?
Thanks
Rick
