hppi, JetAdmin, sam,lpmgr

Can't get printers to show up.

10.20 box w/JetAdmin installed
11.0 box w/hppi installed

Ran lpmgr -S on 10.20 box and transfered files to 11.0 box.
Ran lpmgr -R on 11.0 box

ran transferqueue local on 11.0 box.

The above three processes ran w/o any errors.

No printers show up with lpstat -v or in sam on the 11.0 box. Also, can't configure a printer through sam because jetadmin is not installed. Any thoughts on:

How do I get printers to show up on 11.0 box?
What do I need to do to get sam to configure printers w/o jetadmin?
Or...do I need to install jetadmin as well as hppi?

Re: hppi, JetAdmin, sam,lpmgr

I just moved 12 print queues and 7 printers connected via jetdirect cards from a 10.20 system to an 11.00 system.

This message applies only if you are using jetdirect cards to connect your printers.

First delete all the print queues that you just recovered on your new system - they aren't going to work. Then install a piece of software called "Hewlett Packard Printer Installer"
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpjdprinte18922_swen.html

once you install this software then use hppi to define the print queues

Web Jetadmin just confuses me.

Peter--I agree with you regarding web jetadmin.

I already have Hewlett Packard Print Interface (hppi) installed. In theory, lpmgr lets you "export" and "import" printer definitions. In theory "transferqueue local" converts jetadmin printer definitions to hppi printer definitions. I can add printers with hppi w/o any problems. I just don't want to have to go through re-creating all the printers I have defined on my 10.20 box by hand.

Re: hppi, JetAdmin, sam,lpmgr

HP just called me back on this - and Yee-Wen said that no its not supported and was unlikely to work between 10.20 and 11.00
