to install HPUX 11.00 using IGNITE. However IGNITE
is only allowing me to select the 32bit os install.
command 'model' reports:-
9000/800/K460
Is there any other way I can install full 64bit wihout
calling out a CE if so would further upgrade/patches
go funny on me.
If the CE route is the only way should the model
number read.
9000/889/K460 or 9000/889/k460
Regards
Don

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
During a fresh installation you need
to change the initial prompting from 32
bit to 64 bit. I am fairly sure that if
a server is capable of running 32 bit the
install will show the default as being
32 bit anyway.
Is the server that generated the ignite
tape 32 bit (silly question??) What server
class generated the tape??

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
maybe I did'nt make myself clear enough. I'm not
using any tape devices, just the installation cd-rom
and attempting a 64bit fresh install
The only choices I get from IGNITE is (32bit CDE or 32bit Workstation).
I know the model name is stored in the bios and heard
that a routine called 'ssconfig' needs to be run by a CE.
currently the model name '9000/800/K460'
Thanks

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
If you've created your ignite golden image on a 32bit system, you could not install a 64bit system. Use the CD to install the new server and don't forget to create a 64bit image for reinstallation purpose :-)

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
This is a blank standalone machine. Should I be using
IGNITE. If not what should I be using. I'm a just confusing myself by have the model number changed
from 9000/800/K460 -> 9000/889/K460.

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
I do not have any K model. I search on the forum and I have found the following :

I think it will help you

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
It doesn't matter if you have a 'k' class
or any other class if your doing a fresh
install from CD. The procedures are the same.
If your are using a CD for a fresh install
the best way to do it is:
Boot the system and when you get the interrupt
message do a SEA from the prompt (if you don't
know your CD HW path)
Once you have the CD booted, after you select
"install" being the first selection you can
change the 32bit to 64 bit as long as your system is compatible.
Only thing I can think of is it doesn't show this at the options is perhaps you need a firmware upgrade first to able to do this.

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
I just read your question again... If your
doing an install from CD you don't do
select the "ignite" option once the CD has
booted. You MUST select "Install" as your
starting point so you can continue. From
there you can select the 64 bit version as
I mentioned before.
Good Luck

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
If I am correct then
if the system that U are trying to install is a 64 bit hardware system then the Install screen will automatically give U the option between 32 or 64 bit OS..
Hope this helps

Re: HPUX 11.00 Fresh install
Up to HP, the K class is a 32-bit architecture.
I don't think you can install 64-bit architecture on 32-bit !
On 32-bit arch., addressing mechanism is 32-bit.
On 64-bit arch., addressing mechanism is 64-bit.
No way man .
