HPUX 11.11 and MSA1000

Hi Gurus,

I have a system as follows:
HP-UX carkdsa1 B.11.11 U 9000/800 431264013 unlimited-user license

Connected to a 4/8 SAN switch, which is connected to a MSA 1000.

I have only one pair of fiber from my system (has only one FC port) to SAN switch and one pair of Fiber from SAN switch to MSA.

With this configuration, I expect one device file for each LUN created on the MSA 1000.

But I see two for each LUN created on MSA1000.

ioscan -fnC disk is as follows:

disk 3 0/3/1/0.1.7.0.0.0.2 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c4t0d2 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d2
disk 6 0/3/1/0.1.7.0.0.0.3 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c4t0d3 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d3
disk 8 0/3/1/0.1.7.0.0.0.4 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c4t0d4 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d4
disk 9 0/3/1/0.1.7.0.0.0.5 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c4t0d5 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d5
disk 12 0/3/1/0.1.7.0.0.0.6 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c4t0d6 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d6
disk 4 0/3/1/0.1.7.255.0.0.2 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c5t0d2 /dev/rdsk/c5t0d2
disk 5 0/3/1/0.1.7.255.0.0.3 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c5t0d3 /dev/rdsk/c5t0d3
disk 7 0/3/1/0.1.7.255.0.0.4 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c5t0d4 /dev/rdsk/c5t0d4
disk 10 0/3/1/0.1.7.255.0.0.5 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c5t0d5 /dev/rdsk/c5t0d5
disk 11 0/3/1/0.1.7.255.0.0.6 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE COMPAQ MSA1000 VOLUME
/dev/dsk/c5t0d6 /dev/rdsk/c5t0d6

I am not able to understand 0.1.7.0 and 0.1.7.255 paths.

Can someone help me understand and how to correct this?

Hi Sathya,

Installing PHKL_30257 should resolve your issue. Check the release note for more details...

Shalom,

Make sure the firmware of the MSA-1000 is up to date as well, especially if you ever plan to have mulitple HP-UX servers connected to it.

Re: HPUX 11.11 and MSA1000

Execute fcmsutil to determine your SAN environment because it looks like Direct Fabric.

ioscan -funC fc
ioscan -H 0/3/1/0

fcmsutil /dev/td? devstat all

Direct Fabric Attach Device
0/3/1/0.1.7.255.0.0.5

0/3/1/0 = adapter (* HBA, /dev/td# *)
.1 = domain
.7= area
.255 = port
.0 = bus
.0 = target
.5 = lun

And you're saying the switch ports are 255 and 0? So I'd look at the switch and verify its zone configuration. Hard, soft..

Re: HPUX 11.11 and MSA1000

I have later patch installed on the server.

# swlist -l product | grep -i mass
FCMassStorage B.11.11 Fibre Channel Mass Storage
PHKL_33066 1.0 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Patch

Any other thoughts?

I configured LUNs as Raid 5.

Any other information that helps?

Regards,
Sathya.

I have attached fcmsutil output.

I could not find what's wrong from these outputs.

About switch, I am not sure what exactly you are refering to. Little more details would help.

Re: HPUX 11.11 and MSA1000

I checked the switch, there are no zones configured. Does this make the difference?

Sathya.

Re: HPUX 11.11 and MSA1000

Hi sathya,
This is a known issue with MSA series storage. Please check the two things.

1. check the profile of the MSA whether it is set for HP UNIX OS.(you need to connect to the serial port of the msa. for setting the profile please check the mannual)

2. Update the latest Fiber channel patch.

Thanks and regards
