HPUX 11.11 upgrade to 11.23 without DVD/ROM

Hi
I have an rp-3410, that has 11.11 on it. I'd like to upgrade to 11.23. Since these servers don't have DVD devices, Can this upgrade be done thru an NFS-mounted dvd-rom, or from copying the contents of the upgrade disks to the local hard drive?

or do I need to boot off of DVD-ROM to upgrade?

Thanks for any help

Shalom,

1) Don't use upgrade-ux, it trashes systems and succeeds only about half the time. Go for a cold install.

2) You do not need a DVD drive. You can set up an Ignite server and boot off that for install via the built in network card of our server.

Re: HPUX 11.11 upgrade to 11.23 without DVD/ROM

I have recently upgraded 6 boxes from 11.11 to 11.23 without issue. I know that the upgrade from earlier version of the O/S have caused problems, but this was painless for me.

I won't debate your choice to upgrade. I have done many successful upgrades myself. But as SEP mentioned you will have to setup an Ignite server.

Re: HPUX 11.11 upgrade to 11.23 without DVD/ROM

Hi
thanks for the help. I'd rather not do a cold isntall if I don't have too. I have two rp3410 boxes, BOTH preloaded with 11.11, got them delivered back in february. One of them will be upgraded or changed to 11.23. Is there a way to upgrade a system , by NFS mounting a dvd onto it, and running from within that mount, or could I even use a local directory on this server, where I can copy the 11.23 App software?

do I need to go with the Ignite setup/install method, or can I do it locally, while the system is already booted in 11.11?
Both of the machines are brand-spanking new, with the latest patches and software, so I doubt I 'll have any problems with upgrade option.
any thoughts?

Re: HPUX 11.11 upgrade to 11.23 without DVD/ROM

Hi
I tried the upgrade-ux -s /cdrom HPUX11i-OE, and it just says that the version of the upgrade software, September '06, is older than the OS that is currently installed, 11i Foundation from December '06.
I ordered it from DSSP Parter Edge website for HP. I guess I will indeed have to run a cold install from Ignite now, since there doesn't appear to be a newer version of 11.23 on the dssp website. ISO's don't exist on HP for the OS, I can't download the Core OS dvd, I have to have it shipped by mail ?
