HPUX 11.23 - Limit on user sessions?

Hi.

We are experiencing a prpoblem on one of our 11.23 servers using ssh for user logins. There seems to be a limit to the number os users which can connect a session at one time.

We have checked the kernel for any limits and all settings such as npty, nstrpty and nstretel have all been increased to 120 (system default was 60) however we are still having a limit where we cannot go beyond 30 connections.

Any ideas? I was expecting to fiund a limit in the ssh_config restricting the number of secure shell connections but I cant see one (we use PUTTY as out client secure sell conneciton).

Any ideas much appriciated.

thanks. Paul

Shalom,

insf -e

Try again. After increasing possible sessions device files for pseudo terminals need to be created.

Re: HPUX 11.23 - Limit on user sessions?

When we applied the kernel changes we rebooted the server which i would expect to do the insf -e on startup?

Which type of dev should I be looking fo rthe increase in, as even after an insf -e we still have the same number of devices in /dev/pty

thanks

Paul,

Have a look at this doc.

Re: HPUX 11.23 - Limit on user sessions?

hi Paul,

I think you should first of all monitor the "SYSTEM TABLE" in glance.

glance -t

This will give you a better indication on which parameter should be tuned:

In this above mentioned report, the following values may be obtained:
e.g.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYSTEM TABLES REPORT Users= 2

System Table Available Used Utilization High(%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Proc Table (nproc) 4096 678 17 17
File Table (nfile) 63498 7948 13 13
Shared Mem Table (shmmni) 512 11 2 2
Message Table (msgmni) 4096 2 0 0
Semaphore Table (semmni) 4096 26 1 1
File Locks (nflocks) 4096 70 2 2
Pseudo Terminals (npty) 60 0 0 0
Buffer Headers (nbuf) na 73746 na na

hope this helps!
kind regards
