I presume I need to install base vxfs4.1 and associated patches. ( does this require a reboot ?)
After I install base Vxfs 4.1 can I continue to use currently mounted filesystms that are mounted as ver4 without using vxfsupgrade, and therefore just be able to mount imported files system of vxfs ver6.
Then over time gradually convert ver4 to ver6 using vxupgrade command.
Thanks

Re: HPUX 11.23 vxupgrade from ver4 to ver 6
A base version of vxfs is installed with the 11.23 OS but is removable.
swlist -l product | grep -i vxfs
You may need to try other keywords to be sure.
This upgrade will to my knowledge require a reboot of the system.

SolutionVxFS 4.1 introduced layout version 6 but will mount filesystems with layout version 4 or 5. While you cannot mount layout version 3, you can and should upgrade version 3 using 'vxfsconvert'. Version 3 filesystem support or conversion will not be possible after VxFS 4.1.

Re: HPUX 11.23 vxupgrade from ver4 to ver 6
When upgraded to VXFS 4.1 it will be ver 6 compatable ? SO should be able to mount these filesystems no issue
But Will old filesystems that were ver4 still be ok, can I leave them there without having to vxupgrade them ?
Does the upgrade require reboot ?
Thanks

The VxFS software _must_ be capable of supporting the version layouts. At a minimum, VxFS 4.1 is required to mount a version-6 layout. Hence, you can't mount a version-6 filesystem on a server unless it is running at least VxFS 4.1.

Yes, VxFS introduces layout version-6.
> But Will old filesystems that were ver4 still be ok, can I leave them there without having to vxupgrade them ?
Yes, see my first post to you in this thread.
Does the upgrade require reboot ?
Yes, if by upgrade, you mean the installation of VxFS 4.1. No, if you mean a filesystem layout conversion. Upgrades of filesystem layout versions only require a few seconds or minutes and a little free filesystem space. No reboot is necessary for this activity.
