HPUX 11i and dual Gigabit Ethernet Cards Issue

I am running HPUX 11i on an L2000 box. I have installed two Gig-E cards. I am only able to get one of the cards to go into 1000BT mode. The other will only go max 100BT Full Duplex. I have switched cables, cards, everything in the path.
I am guessing that this is a limitation of the OS/Hardware that you can only have one card at a time in Gigabit mode.
Can someone confirm this for me?

Thanks,

Craig

Re: HPUX 11i and dual Gigabit Ethernet Cards Issue

Hi Craig,

I have 11i systems with 5 GigE cards in them and all of them run 1000BT. My guess is you have a problem with your network switch, where the ports are not configured to allow both cards to run 1000BT full duplex.

Are the GigE switch ports configured to autonegotiate?

Regards,

Dave

Hi Craig,

I agree with Dave. GigE specs dictate auto-negotiate - only.
Either the switch port is set to *not* negotiate or it has a problem with it's setup or operation.

Re: HPUX 11i and dual Gigabit Ethernet Cards Issue

You should be able to get them all going in full duplex.

You will not be able to get them going on the same network.

If lan1 is 192.168.0.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 and you want lan2 to be 192.168.0.11 netmask 255.255.255.0 it won't work on HP-UX.

Thats an operating system feature.

Atlernate:

This could be a switch port setting problem. Check with the admin of your switch.

We are direct through crossover cables. The other end is a NetApp filer. We even change ports on the filer with no luck.

Hi Craig,

Do you happen to have a gigabit switch handy that you could try plugging these interfaces into to see if they suddenly negotiate to 1000BT?
