HPUX 11i instalation on B2000

Hello,

I'm trying to install 11i on B2000 workstation. I replaced the cf-rom with HP DVD writer. Upgraded firmware from 4.9 to 5.0 and according to documentaion, now it should be ready for the installation.

The software is 11i from 12/2004.

These are the steps:
sea
bo P0

When it gets here:
Boot
disk (10/4/ bla bla bla):WINSTALL
234235 + 253235 + 2342532

And it's just stuck ... DVD is not spinning and it hangs like this for a very long time ...

Any ideas what else I can do?

Thanx.

Re: HPUX 11i instalation on B2000

Hi,

Did you try to install with other Installation CD ?

Did you try to clean the DVDrom first before do the installation ?

If the CDrom is still working, try first to do the installation using CDrom ... and if the OS has been installed, you can replace the CDrom and troubleshoot the DVDrom.

There's a probability that your DVDrom is faulty OR the Installation CD is not good.

Hope this information can help you.

Re: HPUX 11i instalation on B2000

How much physical memory do you have on this souped-up workstation ? 64 MB is not enough from my past experience. 128 is barely sufficient but may cause hickups like this. 256MB and north of it is a good starting point.

Also, are you sure if your scsi controller is not flackey or the dvdrom and the controller are of different types (like Single ended vs ultrawide or fast-wide)

But more than likely, I'd say insufficient memory.

My 2 cents...Good luck

Re: HPUX 11i instalation on B2000

I have 256MB there, hope to get more soon.

DVD writer is IDE and it's connected ok I think, checked all cables and connections.

Unfourtunately, I don't have CD ROM installation, only DVD and I tried 2 different medias to install from.

Re: HPUX 11i instalation on B2000

Hi Alex,

what is the model number of your DVD writer? If you have a DVD writer from PC world, there will be a problem. B2000 requires IDE DVD reader or writer with dedicated HP firmware.

Re: HPUX 11i instalation on B2000

If the DVD is not specifically supported this could be the issue.

I know you've checked:

firmware
media
drive specification.

256 is pretty low for 11i so memory is probably the best thing to try.

If that doesn't work, the CD-ROM goes back in and we do the install off CD-ROM media.

Also make sure the DVD actually works right.

Yea, it's a DVD from my PC ....

So I guess this is the problem.

Re: HPUX 11i instalation on B2000

Well, if the PC DVD won't work on this station, it's the problem ...

I should get another DVD or install ot from CD ROM that comes with the station.

Hey Syam, now I'm a free student :)

Thanx all for the help!
