It is not free to upgrade from 11.0 to 11i. Check with your HP sales representative.
The code what worked on 11.0 should work on 11i. However, the best way to verify it is to test it.

if you have support for software you have to
only buy CD with new OS and migrate licenses.
But if you don't have support you must buy upgrade option.

Checking compatability is a pain.
You must check with each and every vendor on compatability issues and required patches
Your best bet is to install cold and then re-install all your applications.

if you have a valid support contract you should get the appropriate CD's for the Update and there's no need for buying new licenses
On the first HP-UX 11.11 CD there is a program called "update-ux" with which you can check if there's any problem with the migration
