hpux and 3rd party ghost sfwr

I have a vendor who wants to load a ghost product on a hpux system. It was mentioned that the product can be used with perl to extract and convert very large postscript files to tif files. Sorry, I do not have the name of the ghost product yet. I am still waiting for an email with more details. Has anyone heard of this being done on a hpux system?

Re: hpux and 3rd party ghost sfwr

Hi:

I think you are talking about 'ghostscript' and yes, it's a solid package.

There are many useful packages available from the HP-UX Porting Centre's.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi,

Yes. The vendor might have talked about Ghostscript or Ghostview. You can get them from HP's porting site.

Re: hpux and 3rd party ghost sfwr

Just a guess, but the vendor may be refering to the ghostscript utility.

http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

From the ghostscript FAQ:
What is Ghostscript?
Ghostscript is the name of a set of software that provides:
An interpreter for the PostScript (TM) language, with the ability to convert PostScript language files to many raster formats, view them on displays, and print them on printers that don't have PostScript language capability built in;
An interpreter for Portable Document Format (PDF) files, with the same abilities;
The ability to convert PostScript language files to PDF (with some limitations) and vice versa; and
A set of C procedures (the Ghostscript library) that implement the graphics capabilities that appear as primitive operations in the PostScript language.
Remember, wherever you go, there you are...

Re: hpux and 3rd party ghost sfwr

Just to give you that warm fuzzy feeling.

We have used it to convert print files to pdf on HP-UX 11.00 32 bit, HP-UX 11.11 64 bit and the version in the links above are standard in our server template which we push with Ignite.

It's a solid, reliable tool.

Plus the price is right.
