HPUX diskless clients

Hi,

I am planning to setup diskless HP-UX machines . HP-UX NFS diskless cluster supports diskless only on version 10.0 - 10.20.

Is there anyother way i can setup my server and diskless clients for HP-UX 11.x ?

thx

Hi,
if you are thinking of using ignite:

I thought rbootd was available in 11i.

Re: HPUX diskless clients

Shalom,

For installatoin purposes you can boot any HP-UX system off an Ignite server with the Core OS. This is called Ignite imaging.

It is also possible to boot systems off a fiber disk array via a fiber connection.

What is not possible as far as I know is to keep the boot disk on some NFS server and boot the system every day this way.

You need a boot device that can be located with the sea command.

Though its theoretically possible to do this, don't do it if HP does not explicitly support it.

If you have a SAN storage you can boot HPUX 11i from Storage disk.

Re: HPUX diskless clients

I believe you are referring to diskless workstations which means there is no local disk at all. HP had a long run with diskless workstations in the late 80's and early 90's but the HP protocol for diskless was not routeable. So a lot of effort was put into NFS diskless for 10.xx and the market simply dried up, probably because disks were so cheap and NFS diskless was a very slow solution, even with 100Mbit links.

So, no, there is no more diskless support in current versions of HP-UX.
